Roger Dean is best known as album cover designer. He was born in England in 1944, but spent most of his childhood away from England because his father was in the British army and he took the option of going abroad in Greece, Cyprus and Asia. He returned to UK in 1959 with his family and went to Ashford Grammar School. In 1961 Roger studied silversmithing and then furniture design at Canterbury School of Art, leading to a National Diploma of Design. In 1965 he joined the Royal College of Art school and graduated in 1968 and continued to live and work in London.

The beginning of an ongoing collaboration between Roger and the musicians was by designing his first album cover for a group called Gun. In 1971 Roger produced the first Osibisa album cover, which attracted a lot of attention to his work as an album cover designer and late in that same year he designed his first album cover for "Yes". Whilst designing record covers, Roger has also, worked in architectural and furniture projects and his work has been exhibited in Victoria Museum, Albert Museum and the in the Royal Academy.
